LITTLE LION MAN (Vinyl)
This song was the first single released from the band’s debut album Sign No More, which was released in Marcus Mumford has come out and said the song is personal to him, and is a self assessment of the mistakes he made during a failed relationship. The song begins with Mumford telling himself he has not lived up to his own expectations and that he is “not as brave as you were at the start”, which indicates that many times when people initiate a relationship, they attempt to show off the best qualities or versions of themselves, but eventually their true character comes through.
The chorus is Mumford’s confession to his partner of how badly he damaged the relationship. He goes on to berate himself in the second verse as well saying, “You know that you have seen this all before” meaning that he has ruined previous relationships with the same posturing and self-aggrandizement that has brought him to this point.

Only since the release of the Delta album last year did frontman Marcus Mumford give some explanation about them. Before that, we just had to make do with vague hints. Since the British folk-rock band is currently on their Delta Tour and visiting many festivals this summer, and since nothing makes the experience of a concert as intense as when you know what an artist is actually singing about, I have taken on the challenge of interpreting their music.
They have also won many prestigious awards , were allowed to perform with none other than Bob Dylan during the Grammy Awards in and played for Barack Obama in the White House. On top of that, they have left lasting impressions on the audience at the festivals where they headlined. It was supposedly chosen because Marcus Mumford was the most prominent band member in the early days and because the vibe of the name was that of an old-fashioned family business.
Surprisingly, the band regrets it. They did, however, put a lot of thought into their lyrics. With that being said, we present an interpretation of five of their big hits:. To this day, the meaning of this song is still a mystery , but we now know why. In an interview Marcus says:. The knight then performed several heroic deeds to win her back again. As far as we know it has never been confirmed by the Mumfords that this is what the song is actually about, but it seems reasonable, right?

On one hand, he wants to be independent and mature, while on the other hand, he still feels like a child. The writer continues to remind himself of his wrong decisions which have landed him in his current state, such as using the best part of his energy to focus on problems, rather than developing himself. In the chorus, he blames his past or younger self for his current failures. In the second verse however, he tries to advice his future self in an ironic way to let go of his past mistakes, accept his failures and make an effort to find new opportunities and make good use of them.
He admits that growth comes with a lot of responsibility and he has to brace himself for that, otherwise, he may end up being stuck to feeling childish and controlled by others. Mumford and Sons uses this song to talk about the struggles people face as they mature emotionally. Writing : W. Marshall, B.
Hey, our system thinks you’re a bot.
The debut album Sigh No More broke in the U. Sigh No More packs a folksy punch that is both abrasive and reserved in the same breath. It immediately sets a toe-tapping tone in the beginning with a fast acoustic riff backed by booming drums, simple piano and a slight plucking on the banjo. The song summons feelings centered around an atmosphere of regret, settling somewhere in the depths of the aftermath of a terrible break up.
Essentially, it narrates a broken heart when reflection begins to take hold.

I hear a grown man who’s reflecting on his life. This song is about a man realizing that his relationships fail because of his inability to be a good partner.
‘Little Lion Man’ is a song from Mumford & Sons’ debut studio album ‘Sigh No More,’ released in
This song is about the inability of a man to be the person he thinks he should be or thinks of himself to be. He hurts the people around him instead of leading them. He thinks of himself to be courageous and a leader, but finds that he is actually the one that is making the mistakes. This realization becomes clearer as he sees the same patterns of destruction with multiple people.
We would all like to think of ourselves as brave, noble, people that care about others and ultimately do the right thing. When things don’t go right it is easy to blame the negativity on others or the situation. But when one starts to see the same pattern in multiple situations, you might start to realize that the problem lies within. This song represents modern relationships. Where a person might go through many relationships aways blaming the other people for the reason why the relationship failed.
And ultimately thinking that the right person hasn’t common around. This song is about a man realizing that his relationships fail because of his inability to be a good partner. Your grace is wasted in your face, Your boldness stands alone among the wreck that after the damage is done you try to act like nothing happened at all and your not sad at all Learn from your mother or else spend your days biting your own neck That you should take advice from others or everything you do will fail or come back to hurt you.
I understand the meaning to be very different from all the other post. I hear a grown man who’s reflecting on his life.
