The Outcasts were citizens of Taris that had been banished to the Undercity of the planet. They and their descendants were forced to live in dirt and filth, while having to beg for and steal food and clothes. The Outcasts lived in constant fear of the rakghouls — mutants which could spread their infection to anyone. When new, smaller trade routes moved from Taris, rendering the planet unnecessary and without the support of the Republic , the planet began to fall into ruin and despair. The great city of Taris covered more than half the planet’s surface, so the kelp harvest and the creatures of the sea were the only native food source. Abandoned by the Republic, the Tarisian industrialists began to use certain power sources that would have been illegal under the jurisdiction of the Republic, which produced toxic waste as a byproduct. The pollution poisoned and killed most of the oceanic flora and fauna, leaving the planet with no reliable food source and beginning a famine.

The drive to widen access and participation in higher education is rapidly transforming the sector. Thus, the irony of widening participation would seem to be that by entering higher education an already disadvantaged educational habitus should be reinforced not transformed. Based on a three-year ethnographic study, this paper explores the factors motivating widening participation students to enrol in higher education, the nature of their experiences, and the extent to which higher education represents an attempt at social repositioning.

Watch the trailer. After falling victim to a humiliating prank by the high school queen bee, Jodi Victoria Justice and her best friend Mindy Eden Sher plot their revenge by uniting all of the school’s outcasts to overthrow the cruel reign of the popular clique once and for all. But in a tale of “be careful what you wish for,” a taste of power gets the best of all of them, nearly ruining Jodi and Mindy’s friendship and threatening to sabotage Jodi’s budding romance with Dave Avan Jogia.
A relatable journey about finding where you belong in a world where you’re hastily defined by your peers, THE OUTCASTS turns the teenage experience upside-down with humor, wit, empathy, and a lot of fun. Written by Clarius Entertainment. Band geek Jodi Victoria Justice has been her best friend since 3rd grade. Mindy tries to make peace but Whitney humiliates Jodi. The girls set to overturn the high school power structure by uniting the disenfranchised. The basic plot structure is well done and the young cast is solid.
I really like Eden on her TV show. Many of the girls playing teens are in their 20s. This is not that different from other high school dramedies and should work well. Eden Sher is playing her wacky nerd character and Justice has good friend chemistry with her. Claudia Lee is a fine mean girl but this is no Mean Girls.

Creech, Jennifer L. Bloomington: Indiana UP, In the last decade, studies of GDR cinema in its international and transnational contexts have proliferated, especially with the East German studio’s 70th anniversary celebrated in At the same time, scholars have also explored genre and gender theories, feminist and audience response approaches, as useful tools to analyze DEFA films in order to position them within European cinema at large. Jennifer L. Creech’s monograph on East German women’s films reconciles these two paths of scholarly inquiry and advocates a shift from hitherto privileged binary divisions: artists vs.
By focusing on Alltagsfilme and documentaries from the mids until the late s that foregrounded “the function of ‘woman’ as a narrative tool of identification and social critique” , Creech proposes a more complex understanding of the dynamics, ambiguities, and aspirations of DEFA films and their audiences alike. Mothers, Comrades, and Outcasts breaks new ground in DEFA scholarship by focusing on feminine experience and female subjectivity in Alltagsfilme. Creech thus suggests that ‘”women’s film’ should be read as a ‘mass’ genre, rather than a feminized niche product in the GDR” What sets her study apart from the above works is her project of resituating DEFA women’s films within contemporaneous Western feminist scholarship, e.
